Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Uxel (“Uxel,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when students, parents or guardians, counselors, and other users access our websites, applications, and college-planning services (the “Services”). It does not govern a university, payment provider, or other third party’s independent practices.

Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:

• Account and contact data: name, email address, login credentials, age or date of birth, role, and parent or guardian details.
• Student profile and education data: school, location, graduation year, grades, test scores, courses, activities, honors, intended majors, interests, preferences, goals, financial-aid preferences, and colleges under consideration.
• Application content: essays, drafts, prompts, notes, deadlines, application status, interview practice, feedback requests, and communications with our tools.
• Payment data: plan, transaction, and billing status. Our payment processor handles full card details; we generally do not receive or store them.
• Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device information, pages and features used, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP, cookies, and diagnostic logs.
• Communications: support requests, survey responses, and other messages you send us.

Please do not submit Social Security numbers, medical records, financial-account credentials, or other information that the Services do not request.

We collect information directly from you; automatically when you use the Services; from a parent, guardian, counselor, or school you authorize; and from service providers and public sources, such as publicly available college information. If you provide information about another person, you must have permission to do so.

We use personal information to:

• create and secure accounts and provide customer support;
• personalize college recommendations, planning tools, essay feedback, interview practice, and application tracking;
• process subscriptions and transactions;
• communicate about the Services, including service notices and, where permitted, marketing that you can opt out of;
• monitor performance, troubleshoot, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect users;
• improve and develop the Services, including evaluating automated features; and
• comply with law, enforce our agreements, and establish or defend legal claims.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, or compliance with legal obligations, as appropriate. We do not use student essays or profile information to train general-purpose AI models unless we first provide clear notice and obtain any consent required by law.

Some features use artificial intelligence to analyze information you submit and generate recommendations or feedback. Relevant prompts, essays, profile details, and outputs may be sent to contracted AI or infrastructure providers solely to operate and safeguard those features under applicable service terms. Automated outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete and are not admissions decisions. Users should review them and should not submit confidential information that is unnecessary for the requested feature.

We may disclose information:

• to hosting, database, analytics, communications, customer-support, AI, security, and payment providers that process it for us;
• to a parent, guardian, counselor, school, or other person when you direct us or an authorized organization administers your account;
• to professional advisers and authorities when reasonably necessary for legal compliance, safety, fraud prevention, or protection of rights;
• in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections; and
• in aggregated or de-identified form that is not reasonably capable of identifying you.

We do not sell personal information for money. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If our practices change, we will provide legally required notices and choices.

The Services are intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 unless a parent, guardian, or school has provided authorization and we have implemented required consent and notice procedures. If you believe a child under 13 provided information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as required.

Users under the age of legal majority must use the Services with permission from a parent or legal guardian. A parent or guardian may contact us to request access to or deletion of a child’s information, subject to verification and applicable law.

When we provide Services to a school and receive education records under a school agreement, the school controls those records and we process them only for the contracted educational purpose. Requests concerning school-controlled records should be directed to the school. Uxel does not claim that FERPA applies to information collected directly from an individual outside a school relationship.

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including to maintain an account, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Retention varies by data type and relationship. We may retain de-identified information where it cannot reasonably be linked back to you.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your password confidential and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized account access.

You may update certain account information in the Services, unsubscribe from marketing using the link in an email, and manage browser cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect functionality.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction of personal information; to object to certain processing; to withdraw consent; and to appeal a denied request. You may also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising a privacy right. We may verify your identity and may retain or decline a request where law permits. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted, but we may require proof of authority and identity. Email contact@uxel.app to submit a request. You may appeal our decision by replying to our response with “Privacy Appeal” in the subject line.

We do not knowingly make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.

Uxel and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers. By using the Services, you understand that information may be processed in these locations, subject to applicable law.

We may update this policy as our Services or legal obligations change. We will post the updated version and revise the effective date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required.
